Which Prop Firms Actually Pay? An Honest 2026 Comparison

A rigor-first prop-firm comparison: which FTMO-style firms reliably pay, what their fine print really allows, and EU/German access — verified against each firm's own terms. No affiliate links.

Which prop firms actually pay? We read the fine print — not the affiliate blogs.

Most "best prop firm 2026" lists are commission-driven — one still rated a firm that went insolvent in 2024 at "97% payout reliability". We only list firms whose payouts and terms we checked against their own current pages, and we tell you what the fine print really lets them do.

A prop-firm challenge is a statistics test with a fee attached — and the "funded" account you're chasing is, at almost every firm here, a simulated account, not real capital. That's not a scandal; it's the model. What matters is whether a firm reliably pays the rewards it promises, and what its terms let it do if it decides not to. Below is where the evidence stands as of 26 July 2026. This niche changes monthly — re-check every figure at signup.

Firm Type EU / German access Real capital? Key fine-print red flag
FTMO Forex/CFD Yes — bank transfer Simulated Can remove simulated trades & forfeit rewards at its discretion
FundedNext Forex/CFD Yes — VPN bypass = ban Simulated (B-book) Qualified retroactive-change clause; very broad reward-withholding
Topstep Futures (CME) Partial — simulated only, no Live account, $200k lifetime cap Simulated Rules change "without notice"; sole-discretion conduct rules + forfeiture
The5ers Forex/CFD Yes "Real capital" is marketing, not in the binding terms Unilateral changes "binding immediately upon posting" + forfeiture
Take Profit Trader Futures Yes — PayPal / Wise Simulated Unilateral, no-notice rule changes
Funding Pips Forex/CFD Yes Simulated Terms say it is "not responsible for ensuring the payment" of rewards; can deduct trades / withhold pending a "risk interview"; Dubai law

The honest verdict, firm by firm

FTMO — the best-documented payer of the group: over $450M in reported payouts, and — unusually — a $329M 2024 revenue figure that comes from its parent's filed accounts, not a press release. Accounts are explicitly simulated. Read its forbidden-practices page before you trade a news event: it lets FTMO remove simulated trades and forfeit rewards at its own discretion.

FundedNext — the largest review base in the sector (60,000+ Trustpilot). Openly a B-book: its terms state "no orders are executed in the live market." Its retroactive-modification clause is real but qualified ("to protect platform integrity"), and its reward-withholding language is broad — worth knowing before you rely on a payout.

Topstep — the cleanest ownership story (owned by LSE-listed, regulated Plus500). The honest catch for German traders: you get a simulated Express Funded Account only — no Live Funded Account, and a $200,000 lifetime payout cap. Combine parameters and rules can change "without notice."

The5ers — a long track record and clear payout terms (cash via Rise/crypto/bank at a stated 3.5% commission). Two honesty notes: its "real capital" claim is marketing, not in the binding terms — treat the account as simulated; and rule changes are "binding immediately upon posting."

Take Profit Trader — a futures firm that accepts German residents, with PayPal/Wise payouts. Simulated evaluation; standard unilateral, no-notice rule-change clause. Confirm the current payout methods and fees at signup.

Funding Pips — huge review volume and frequent weekly payouts. But its terms (read 26 Jul 2026) carry the most explicit fine print of the group: it states it is "not responsible for ensuring the payment" of rewards, can deduct trades or impose new restrictions at its discretion, and can withhold your reward until you pass a "risk assessment interview". Governing law is Dubai.

What the fine print actually means

Read this before you pay any challenge fee
  • Simulated accounts. The six-figure "funded" balance is virtual at every firm above — you're paid a reward on simulated performance, not profits from real trades.
  • Discretion is the rule, not the exception. Every firm reserves the right to change rules with little or no notice and to deny, delay, or forfeit payouts under broad clauses. Read the forbidden-practices / terms page — that's where the real risk lives.
  • Unregulated. These are evaluation firms, not regulated brokers. No investor-protection scheme applies.
  • Self-reported figures. Payout totals and trader counts are firm-published and unaudited. Treat them as directional.
  • It changes monthly. Roughly 80–100 firms collapsed or pivoted out of the model between 2024 and 2025. Re-check any firm's status right before you buy.

Who we left off — and why

We excluded Apex Trader Funding: its own Terms of Use (read 26 Jul 2026) say the program is "intended for United States users," so we can't recommend it for a German audience. We also don't list the firms that collapsed — True Forex Funds (insolvent 2024, ~$1.2M owed to ~300 traders), The Funded Trader (payouts frozen ~10 months), FundingTicks (retroactive rule changes, wound down early 2026), and MyFundedFX (shut with ~2 days' notice). Some "best of" lists still rank a few of these. That's the whole point.
